Updated 2026-08-26
Before, taking a hit was always the same damage math. Not anymore: real defense has arrived. Gear progression runs from wood to leather, copper, iron and gold, and every piece (helmet, chest, legs and boots) cuts incoming damage. Wearing the full set is what separates life from death in PvP and against heavy fauna.
It's not just a darker number: each tier has its own look. You glance and know whether the other player is in leather or iron plates, and that changes how you decide to fight or fall back.
Shields go in the off-hand. With a one-handed weapon, the shield blocks part of the damage head-on, an active tool that rewards reading the fight. The wood shield gets you out of trouble early; the iron one, with a central boss, soaks far more punishment.

Then there's logistics, which favors the organized: backpacks expand the inventory. The regular backpack takes you to 45 cells; the large one goes to 62 and even brings a bedroll. More space means longer expeditions without running back to base every two minutes.

Combine all of it with classes (health, speed, strength and a special ability) and combat stops being luck and becomes a build: what you wear, what you hold and how you use the shield decide who walks away. Forge, gear up and conquer.
Items in this update

Wood chestplate
The first tier, made from wood alone. Small damage cut, but it gets you off zero.

Copper chestplate
Mid tier. Needs copper smelted in the furnace and protects far more than wood and leather.

Iron chestplate
Core of the iron tier. Cuts incoming damage; the full set protects more.

Gold chestplate
The top tier. The game's biggest damage reduction, and the priciest to forge.

Wood shield
